Briefly tell us who is Janet Maina
Janet was born and grew up in Nyeri County. I attended both primary and secondary school there.
Later on, I joined Egerton University where I graduated with Bachelor’s degree in Information
Science.
My background in Information Science has helped me find roles as a librarian by providing a
foundation in the principles and practices of organizing, managing, and providing access to
information. It has also helped me become an expert in effective information management and
retrieval, as well as user-centered design and access to information services.
How long have you been a part of RVIBS?
I have been working at RVIBS for a period of three months. I assist students, trainers, and staff in the selection of library materials. I am also in charge of planning, organizing, coordinating, overseeing, and providing library services at the college.
What is it like working at RVIBS college?
Working at RVIBS has exposed me to a wide range of expertise and has enabled me to view the world in
a different way. I have had the privilege to interact with staff and students. Interacting with students
makes me nostalgic as it takes me back to the days when I was a student. It gives me joy and satisfaction
when I satisfy student’s informational needs.
What is your parting shot ?
It has been an honor to serve as a college librarian and to help students as well as faculties connect
with the knowledge and resources, they need to succeed. Remember, the library is not just a
place with books, but a gateway to endless possibilities and opportunities. Keep exploring and keep learning.
