RVIBS Volunteer Programme

Volunteering at RVIBS, a leading TVET in Kenya offers the opportunity to mold the next big thinkers of Kenya.  As well as understanding the challenging realities of pursuing higher education  in Kenya. Through your stay here with us, you will discover more about yourself in this culturally diverse environment.  Our volunteers typically join us for a one or two moths stay, although shorter or longer visits are also possible. During this time, they primarily engage with our students and staff, immersing themselves in their daily activities.

Our students are eager for knowledge and very attentive. They enjoy embracing new trends and ideas from all different parts of the world and will warmly embrace new volunteers with enthusiasm. Many volunteers maintain a connection with the goal of RVIBS to better young minds and frequently return to contribute once again. It’s worth mentioning that once you have experienced RVIBS, it becomes challenging to resist returning.

Volunteer Accommodation

By offering volunteer accommodation, we not only prioritize the well-being and safety of our volunteers, but also cultivate a sense of community and mutual support among like-minded individuals striving to make a positive impact through their volunteer work.

In our secure compound near the college, we typically have six volunteers at a time (although this may vary). They reside in apartments that prioritize safety and security. Each apartment is equipped with two beds, a kitchenette, a bathroom, and a sitting room. You will have the opportunity to dine with the college staff for all meals, fostering a sense of togetherness.

To further enhance your experience, we provide a cleaner who takes care of both the cleaning and laundry tasks. Your safety and comfort are of utmost importance to us, ensuring you can focus on unlocking your potential and creating meaningful change. Volunteer accommodation becomes a compassionate home where you can thrive.

At RVIBS, you have the chance to participate in a diverse array of activities that not only benefit the students but also have the potential to positively impact your future lives and careers, especially if you’re a young volunteer of student age. Whether you have aspirations of becoming a teacher, or if your passions and abilities lie in other areas, RVIBS welcomes you with open arms. We offer a wide range of alternative activities, projects, and opportunities for you to engage in. Regardless of your choice, our hope is that you wholeheartedly embrace the charity, learn from the experience, and, of course, thoroughly enjoy it.

1. Sports

Sports holds immense significance at RVIBS, where more than 1000 energetic students thrive. Its impact extends beyond physical fitness, imparting crucial lessons in teamwork and sportsmanship to individuals who may have previously missed out on these essential values.

Numerous students display innate athletic abilities, prompting us to arrange frequent tournaments that offer ample chances for volunteers to mentor, inspire, and actively engage with the students.

2. Psychology And Counselling

As a college, we are resolute in our mission to empower our students and address the socio-economic challenges prevalent in our communities. We firmly believe that mindset plays a crucial role in shaping one’s future.

We want to foster in our student the ability to think critically under pressure, foster high emotional intelligence as well in building trust in team members and colleagues. For volunteers possessing training in counseling and therapy, RVIBS presents an exceptional opportunity to join us in making a profound impact on the lives of these young individuals.

3. Training/Classroom Teaching

As a college that provides technical, health, applied sciences, and business courses, we highly value the integration of diverse intercultural experiences and training in the respective fields. We strongly believe that our interactions with volunteers from various countries contribute to the enhancement of cross-cultural communication skills, global awareness, and the acquisition of fresh, unique knowledge and experiences. By enriching the learning environment and broadening the horizons of both our students and staff, these interactions foster a dynamic and inclusive atmosphere.

4. Community engagement/CSR activities

Volunteers play a crucial role in community engagements and responsibilities by dedicating their time, skills, and energy to support various causes and initiatives. Volunteers can assess their interests, passions, and skills to determine the type of community engagement they would like to participate in. This self-reflection helps them find opportunities that align with their abilities and personal goals. Volunteers often work alongside community members, forming relationships and collaborating on projects. By actively engaging with the community, volunteers can better understand their needs, perspectives, and aspirations.

5. Strategic Planning, Marketing, Advertising

RVIBS can benefit greatly from the involvement of volunteers in its marketing and strategic planning endeavors. Volunteers have the opportunity to make valuable contributions through various means such as writing blog posts, articles, or producing videos to promote the organization’s mission and activities. Those with design expertise can craft visually captivating graphics, infographics, or promotional materials. Additionally, volunteers can assist in the collection and analysis of pertinent data for the organization’s strategic planning purposes, encompassing tasks like market research, competitor analysis, and trend identification. Those possessing project management skills can lend their expertise in coordinating and executing strategic initiatives, overseeing progress, and providing outcome reports.

6. Sponsorship

Individuals interested in volunteering for sponsorship can actively engage by reaching out. They have the opportunity to inquire about volunteer openings, express their enthusiasm, and explore ways to utilize their skills and time in assisting the sponsorship program. It is worth noting that a significant portion of our students at RVIBS receive sponsorship from various sources such as government entities, NGOs, and private donors. As volunteers, they have the freedom to support a deserving student in need through their own discretion.

What our volunteers say

“It has been a wonderful pleasure to be at RVIBS for the past four and a half weeks. I am currently working at CITI in the London office as an investment advisor, specializing in African clients and emerging businesses. I feel that this background has truly helped me understand RVIBS better.

I had the wonderful pleasure of working with Mr. John, MD Percy, Mr. Patrick from the ICT department, as well as Emily, the Director of First Impressions. I am extremely excited to be here. Kenya has been a wonderful home away from home, and I am in love with Nakuru and RVIBS College.”

Maria Olmos

“Hello, my name is Jaime Hernández, working at CITI Bank under the New York office. For the past four weeks, I have been working with RVIBS to find ways to bring the organization to the next level and become a model for technology and other TVET programs throughout Kenya.

From the moment I entered this establishment, I felt electrified by the energy of the students and faculty who pooled all their resources to make this project happen. I am hoping that by next month, the project will come to life, bringing students and businesses together for a bright future for this institution.

RVIBS is a great place to be, and I have truly enjoyed my time here”
