On Friday 15/11/2024, the Rift Valley Institute of Business Studies (RViBS) brought innovation to life with
the ATS Innovation Day event under the KIEP-SKIES project, both sponsored by the World
Bank. The event spotlighted the incredible talent of students pushing the boundaries of
innovation and excelling in fields like robotics and IoT, cybersecurity, web design, graphics
design, and digital marketing.
In a pioneering effort to revolutionize modern farming, the ATS students from the Rift Valley
Institute of Business Studies (RViBS) are redefining agriculture through innovation. As
beneficiaries of a 6.5 billion shillings World Bank-funded scholarship, they developed a
transformative Robotics and IoT system to ensure optimal farm conditions.

ATS Innovation Day: Redefining Agriculture and Showcasing Innovation at RViBS
This innovative farm system uses advanced sensors to regulate watering, temperature, lighting,
and soil moisture while enabling farmers to manage greenhouses conveniently through a
smartphone app. The invention boosts productivity, attracts youth to farming, and promotes
water and soil conservation while reducing costs. The Ministry for Investments, Trade and
Industry is implementing the program through the State Department for Industry.
Steve Jobs once said, “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.” ATS
Innovation Day represented this vision, showcasing RViBS as a leader in preparing students for
a tech-driven future. The institutes’ stakeholders now advocate for more public-private
partnerships to support such transformative talent and grow the innovation ecosystem.
